Subspecies (1991) Romanian locale and endearing stop-motion creatures highlight this tale of vampire bros fighting over a powerful relic. TIL: Actually, true relics have no inherent powers. God can choose to work through them, sure, but He can do that with anything He pleases.

Bubba the Redneck Werewolf (2014) Florida man makes dumb deal with devil for booty and chicken wings. That's a movie summary, not an actual news headline. TIL: The soul is an inalienable possession of the individual and cannot be sold. That doesn't make for good stories, though.

Stung (2015) Big-ass bees bust up a bourgeois bash. 50's mutants plus 80's gore equals a decent time killer. Just don't expect a classic. TIL: St. Gobnait is the patroness of bees and beekeepers. Probably only 10% of the stories about her are true, but those are pretty cool.

The Snarling (2018) Brit twits filming a zombie movie are set upon by a werewolf. No real scares , but lots of dry wit. TIL: Legend says St. Patrick punished King Vereticus and his tribe by turning them into wolves for seven year periods. He still gave them the sacraments though.

Dad Rock Daily: Jeff Beck - Beck-Ola (1969) Guitar great shares the spotlight with Ron Wood (like he had a choice) and a surprisingly excellent pre-sexy Rod Stewart. Laudable Lyrics: Throw down a line, help a poor boy who's hanging in a nowhere tree. Have you got a place for me?

Super Fly (1972) Standard gangster tries to go good story elevated by a flawless funk soundtrack. May be too un-PC for today's delicate viewers. TIL: Pushers often pray to Santa Muerte for aid. Trouble is, she's bogus. Real saints aren't really into helping drug deals go well.

Dad Rock Daily: Can - Ege Bamyasi (1972) Contender for the band's best is worshiped by the Krautrock crowd, but some of the more experimental parts may be a bit inaccessible to the uninitiated. Laudable lyrics: I feel Heaven's splendor.

Southern Comfort (1981) National guardsmen come into conflict with creepy Cajuns. Another great nerve wrecker from Walter Hill. TIL: Actually, Cajuns are generally peaceful and religious. In fact, the gold star on the white field of their official flag symbolizes Our Lady of the Assumption.

Son of Frankenstein (1939) Evil Ygor (Bela at his best) cons the new Baron into reviving his father's monster. Classic with super set design. TIL: Pope Francis' first requirement of good fathering is to be present in the family. You have to leave behind more than just your work.

Island Claws (1980) Super-sized side-walker clobbers Key West. Kudos for actually constructing a king-sized crustacean that works. TIL: Forget any spiritual, health or anthropological reasons, now we know the real reason crabs were put on the kashrut 'foods to avoid' list.

Still Voices - The Devil's Candy (2015) "If in your drawings you habitually disregard proportions you become accustomed to the sight of distortion and lose critical ability." - Robert Henri (Hint: He might not be talking just about drawing.)

Dad Rock Daily: Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II (1969) Sophomore slump? Yeah, some other band maybe. For Zeppelin, II is the moment where it all crystallizes. Laudable Lyrics: I'll just keep on rollin' along with the grace of the Lord above.

Slugs (1988) Killer slugs? Why not. Ludicrous variation on the 'animal attacks' genre is actually more fun than it has any right to be. TIL: Yes, God gave disgusting slugs a purpose. With approximately 27,000 teeth, a slug is perfect for eating the waste left by other animals.

2019: After the Fall of New York (1982) A rescue is attempted in the lawless wasteland of the post-apocalyptic Big Apple in this, the most glorious of all Escape from New York rip offs. TIL: Thanks to over 18 million tourists, the crime rate in Vatican City actually exceeds 133%.
