Dredd (2012) The city's toughest judge/jury/executioner fights his way up a skyscraper. Again, Karl Urban proves he's priceless. TIL: Wonder if Dredd ever said the popular policeman's prayer to St. Michael which exhorts, "Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and wise judgement."

DeadTectives (2018) Lunkheads' ghosthunting reality show gets a bit too real. Enough laughs land to make it worth your while. TIL: In Catholic theology ghosts may be allowed to appear on earth, but do not live here. They are either in heaven, hell, or purgatory.

Dad Rock Daily: Foghat - Fool For The City (1975) No new ground broken here, but basic boogie-rock provides enough good times for a Saturday night soundtrack. Laudable Lyrics: If you can believe it, you hold the future in your hand.

Journey to the Center of the Earth (1988) Albert Pyun splices two films together to make an incomprehensible sequel to Alien From L.A. that no one was asking for. TIL: Jules Verne was a lifelong Catholic, so I'm sure he'd find a way to forgive the filmmakers for this travesty.

Zombie Nightmare (1986) Voodoo priestess zombifies Jon Mikl Thor to combat evil rapist Adam West. For the love of all that's holy, is there no stopping Canada? TIL: St. JPII once met with a voodoo priest in 1993, but did not endorse the religion as desperate anti-Papists claim.

Dad Rock Daily: Four Tops - Still Waters Run Deep (1970) Excellent title track gives way to well worn covers and familiar filler. Still worth a listen though. Laudable Lyrics: Across my dreams with nets of wonder I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love.

The Creeping Terror (1964) Dirty carpet eats local teens and fights the army. Poorly made in every way so, of course, it's a must-see. TIL: God made everything that creeps and declared them good. Alas, all creation shared in the corruption brought about by man's sin. Shame on us.

Gamera (1965) Giant flying turtle that spits fire? Heck yeah, I'm in! Godzilla knockoff for sure, but has plenty of merits of its own for fans of the genre. TIL: St. Kateri Tekakwitha,a member of the Mohawk Turtle Clan, was the first Native American to be recognized as a Saint.

The Glove (1979) Rosey Grier takes time off from knitting to beat vicious prison guards to death with a steel gauntlet. John Saxon intervenes. TIL: The Church recognizes the legitimacy of prison, but teaches that even the worst offenders must still be treated with dignity.

First Spaceship on Venus (1960) German/Polish co-production has a diverse international crew make their way to Earth's neighbor only to discover it really sucks. TIL: For a more visitor-friendly Venus, try C. S. Lewis' Perelandra where the planet is literally a Garden of Eden.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion (1997) Too uplifted by the end of the original series? Oh, we can fix that for you. TIL: Evangelion (glad tidings) were proclaimed after Rome's successful battles. Christians adopted the word because Jesus won the definitive battle.

Andy Warhol's Bad (1977) Relentlessly bleak "comedy" about a suburban hairdresser, her sleazy nephew, and the cadre of female contract killers she employs. TIL: You don't have to pull the trigger. The 5th Commandment condemns the murderer and any who cooperate voluntarily in it.

Dad Rock Daily: Magazine - Real Life (1978) Post-punk classic lacks catchy riffs, but manages a weird staying power nonetheless. Maybe it's those synths.  Laudable Lyrics: All the straws you clutched at have burst into flames, and so you smile that way, tantalizingly lame.

Contracted (2013) Ultra-icky zombie allegory for STD and drug addiction is full of self-centered stupid characters, but maybe that's the point. TIL: The immediate satisfaction of the desire for pleasure too often ignores the God-given willpower that should regulate our lives.

Dad Rock Daily: The Temptations - All Directions (1972) Per the title, the album meanders in many directions, but all roads lead to Papa Was a Rolling Stone. Laudable Lyrics: I watch you go to church on Sunday, but you forget all you learned on Monday.

Starship Invasions (1977) Aliens fight over Earth while Christopher Lee fights to retain his dignity. Canada had the gonads to release this after Star Wars. TIL: Scripture is pretty clear that there are unseen forces at war in the world, but they probably don't dress like this.

Dad Rock Daily: Jackson Browne - Saturate Before Using (1972) Prolific tunesmith finally strikes out on his own. The voice is acceptable but the words are really where it's at here. Laudable Lyrics: We all must do the best we can and then hang on to that Gospel plow.

The Rundown (2003) Evil Christopher Walken tries to explain the tooth fairy to South American thugs. Next to that, all The Rock stuff is inconsequential. TIL: Thanks to the toothy torture she endured, St. Apollonia is the patron saint of dentists, dental pain, and losing teeth.

Dad Rock Daily: Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed (1967) Slow trek from classical through elevator music and on into rock won't be for all tastes, but the patient are rewarded. Laudable Lyrics: Yesterday's dreams are tomorrow's sighs. Watch children playing, they seem so wise.

Solarbabies (1986) Post-apocalyptic rollerblading teens fight for the right to free water. Aggressively ridiculous in almost every way imaginable. TIL: Jesus always said whoever drinks the water he provides will never thirst, rad rollerblader or otherwise.
