When Worlds Collide (1951) Escape craft must be built before a rogue planet destroys Earth. Guess Bruce Willis wasn't invented yet. TIL: Some say Revelation 8 predicts an asteroid wrecking the planet. The Church just says to make sure your soul is ready no matter what end comes.

Things to Come: A new Exorcist trilogy with Ellen Burstyn returning? We'll see. Author Blatty always said he intended The Exorcist to be a sermon. Hopefully Blumhouse, who's done mostly okay by Catholicism with The Conjuring films, will keep that in mind.

Frankenstein General Hospital (1988) Mad doctor continues the family business. Young Frankenstein with 100% less laughs and 100% more silicon implants. TIL: Public hospitals as we know them did not exist until the founding of the first Christian hospital by St. Basil the Great.

The Mummy Theme Park (2000) Robotized mummy corpses react badly to flash photography. Forced perspective using store bought toys make for truly "special" effects. TIL: Some archeologists believe the the tomb of Yuya found in 1905 is actually that of the biblical patriarch Joseph.

Superstition (1982) Parish rents cursed home to clueless family. Opens with an exploding head in a microwave, so you know right away what you're in for. TIL: It's estimated the Church owns over 177 million acres around the world. Probably a cursed house in there somewhere.

Dark Future (1994) Human sex slaves rebel against their cyborg masters to save the world's only baby. Clever Bizarro Westworld concept, but nothing else. TIL: In 2009, the International Union of Superiors General established Talitha Kum to combat human trafficking. Go nuns!

Deep Blood (1990) Boyhood beach buddies reunite to avenge a friend killed by stock footage from other shark movies. Watch only if you've run out of other Jaws knock-offs. TIL: Escaping a Saracen dungeon by way of a dive into the ocean, Adjutor is now the patron saint of swimmers.

The Chill Factor (1993) The only slasher about snowmobilers? We sure hope so. The wintery atmosphere is nice though. TIL: Joseph-Armand Bombardier didn't become a priest like his dad hoped, but did invent the snowmobile to save lives in rural areas, so he did God's work anyway.

Snowbeast (1977) Jaws, but with a Yeti. And made for TV. Bo Svenson lumbers around during the quiet parts if that helps any. TIL: The misguided notion that if God exists He would be provable through physical evidence is what Bishop Robert Barron calls the “Yeti Theory of God.”

Tinseltown Testaments: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 Dream Warriors (1987) “If your only faith is science, doctor, it may be you that's laid to rest.”

Murder by Phone (1982) Madman invents device that does exactly what the title promises. Poor man's Michael Crichton premise is actually fairly entertaining. TIL: To prevent randos from dialing up the pope, his extension is known by only a few and it changes with each new pope.

Shadow in the Cloud (2020) Unwanted female passenger fights a gremlin on a WWII bomber. Passable entertainment, but begs for a Shatner or Lithgow cameo. TIL: During the restoration of Bethlehem Chapel in Loire-Atlantique, architects added gargoyles based on Joe Dante's Gremlins.

Messenger of Death (1988) Reporter Charles Bronson (sure, okay) investigates murder among heavily armed Mormons. Pretty sure even the toddlers are packing. TIL: Though a majority of bishops seem to favor handgun restrictions, the Church has no binding teaching on gun control.

Dad Rock Diary: The Monkees - The Monkees (1966) True, the lads weren't allowed to write most of the songs on this debut, but read the credits, see who did, and show proper respect. Laudable Lyrics: Creature comfort goals, they only numb my soul, and make it hard for me to see.
