DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 30, 2022

Head of the Family (1996) Redneck matches wits with a M.O.D.O.K. wannabe and his freakish family. Probably the epitome of late 90's Chares Band. TIL: Scripture implies men should be the spiritual heads of the family, but acknowledges situations where this is not feasible.

Dad Rock Diary: Dread Zeppelin - Un-Led-Ed (1990) Classic Zep songs played in a reggae style with vocals provided by a portly Elvis impersonator. Sounds like a goof, but it all works amazingly well. Laudable Lyrics: For peace and trust can win the day, despite of all your losing.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 27, 2022

Parasomnia (2008) Art student of dubious intelligence falls for a comely somnambulist controlled by a psychic serial killer. Dreamlike, or just discombobulated? Hard to say. TIL: What do you call a nun who walks in her sleep? A roaming Catholic. I'm here all night, folks.

Still Voices - Snakes on a Plane (2006) "Fly from bad companions as from the bite of a poisonous snake." - St. John Bosco

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 26, 2022

Revealer (2022) Atheist stripper and evangelical must team up during the end times. Bipolar flick in which Dispensationalism is true but religion is somehow still bull****. Huh. TIL: Actually, Catholicism doesn't teach a "Left Behind" scenario. Nobody really did until the 1800's.

Def by Temptation (1990) Succubus tries to corrupt a young man before he enters seminary. Don't let the Troma tag fool you, it's a real film. A decent one at that. TIL: Walter Map's satirical Trifles of Courtiers claims Pope Sylvester II rose to power with the aid of a succubus.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 25, 2022

Popcorn (1991) A killer stalks film students at a festival of William Castle-style flicks. A complete blast, and I'd totally watch every one of the fake movies. TIL: A Vietnamese Good Friday custom has a Jesus statue buried in popcorn, a substitute for rare white flower petals.

Eye of the Cat (1969) Ailurophobe schemes to get his crazy-cat-lady aunt's money. S'alright if you like watching amoral A-holes try to out-con one another. TIL: St. Gertrude was fine with felines, but was actually named the patron saint of cats due to her ability to expel mice.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 24, 2022

Death Toilet (2021) Vietnam vet vows vengeance on the possessed potty that killed his brother. It's less than an hour, so why not? TIL: The Vatican has a bathroom featuring a risqué wall painting by Raphael based on a sex comedy written by Cardinal Bernardo Dovizi di Bibbiena.

Devil Story (1986) A crazed gypsy, her deformed son, a psychic cat, a mummy, and Satan's horse run amuck in the French countryside. I... I... Aye yai yai! TIL: Documents say Christians arrived in France in the 2nd century. Legend says Mary, Martha, & Lazarus landed there earlier.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 10, 2022

Think Big (1989) Truckers hauling toxic waste call on their lucky chicken bone to help a teen in trouble. It's The Barbarian Brothers, of course it's goofy. TIL: Items such as religious medals aren't lucky charms, but physical reminders of God and the communion of saints.

The Laughing Dead (1989) A faithless priest, ex-nun, their son (!), and others meet Mayan monsters during Día de los Muertos. If only it were any good. TIL: Laughing during Easter mass was an accepted Bavarian custom before it was prohibited by Pope Clement X due to its abuse.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 8, 2022

The Monster Club (1981) Vampire Vincent Price regales John Carradine with tales of terror at a night club for the undead. Old fashioned fun for the Famous Monsters set. TIL: With 30+ parables to his credit, storytelling was obviously one of Jesus' favorite methods of teaching.

Night Wars (1988) Vietnam vets physically enter their PTSD induced nightmares to save a POW. Sort of a super bleak Nam on Elm Street. Alas, big ideas, no budget. TIL: Among the names carved on the Vietnam Memorial are those of 16 chaplains of various faiths who died in the war.

DAILY CALL SHEET: JUNE 1, 2022

Bug Buster (1998) Roaches are the problem; Randy Quaid is the solution. Poor man's Arachnophobia, but does have Doug Jones as a big bug. TIL: Christians aren't bound by Kashrut bans on eating winged insects, but it's best to deep fry bacteria-filled roaches before chowing down.

Dad Rock Diary: Catholic Girls - Catholic Girls (1982) Slightly more edgy than the Go-Gos, but with less catchy hooks overall. Despite the plaid skirts, not Catholic League approved. Laudable Lyrics: Who made you? God made you. Why did God make you? God made you for me.
