DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 28, 2023

Babylon (2022) What if Blake Edwards and David Lynch teamed up to make a version of Boogie Nights set in the early days of Hollywood? This. TIL: Babylon is referenced almost 300 times in the Bible, usually as a symbol of sin, rebellion, and everything else wrong in the world.

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 24, 2023

Strike Commando 2 (1988) Sequel replaces Reb Brown as the lead, leading to something entirely unforeseen, actually wishing Reb Brown was the lead in a movie. TIL: Replacement Theology claims Christians replaced Jews as God’s chosen people, an idea Catholicism explicitly rejects.

Freeze Frames 002: "Contentment is a pearl of great price, and whoever procures it at the expense of ten thousand desires makes a wise and a happy purchase." - John Balguy

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 18, 2023

Strike Commando (1987) What if Rambo's mission was simply to take photos? He'd still single-handedly slaughter half the Viet Cong army, of course. TIL: In Scripture, Ishbaal was the leader of King David's Mighty Men and is credited with killing 800 enemies in a single encounter.

Dad Rock Diary: Randy Meisner - Randy Meisner (1982) Overproduced and 80's all the way, but oddly listenable if you're not looking for the Eagles. Laudable Lyrics: Still runnin', still runnin', running 'til the day you die, running with fantasies, you can never settle down.

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 17, 2023

For  Aleteia  this week I check out In Viaggio, the new film from award winning documentarian Gianfranco Rosi wherein he follows Pope Francis around the world. The access granted is fairly unprecedented and the footage is impressively cinematic.

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 16, 2023

The Runestone (1991) Middling 90's creature-feature has a dude who gets possessed by a Viking werewolf while Karl from Die Hard stares intensely at stuff. TIL: As an alphabet, runes aren't inherently pagan, and were easily co-opted by Christians when the religion hit Scandinavia.

I've carried a camera for decades, so I thought I'd start sharing some photos (nice, goofy, weird, whatever) I've shot over the years. - Freeze Frames 001: "For me a stained glass window is a transparent partition between my heart and the heart of the world." - Marc Chagall

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 15, 2023

Vampire Trailer Park (1991) Micro-budget goofiness set in the bowels of Florida-man land has retirees menaced by evil landlords, assassins, and a puking Nosferatu. TIL: Job 20 warns that the pleasures and gains of sin eventually turn sour and must be vomited up... metaphorically.

Funny Book Philosophy: Gargoyles 005 (2007)

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 9, 2023

Dogs of Hell (1982) Army trained killer Rottweilers get loose in the suburbs. Originally in 3-D, which is hard to imagine made it any less dull. TIL: Theologians propose animals might exist in Heaven as part of our eternal happiness, but none believe there are animals in Hell.

Still Voices - Horror of Dracula (1958) "The crucifix does not signify defeat or failure. It reveals to us the Love that overcomes evil and sin." - Pope Francis

DAILY CALL SHEET: FEBRUARY 8, 2023

Evil Spirits (1990) Someone's dispatching boarders for their social security. Middling, but B-C level all-star cast makes it worth at least one watch. TIL: Pope Francis noted the elderly are necessary for the future as the young have the strength, but the elderly have the wisdom.

Dad Rock Diary: Zoot - Just Zoot (1970) Early Rick Springfield vehicle sounds like one of those bands you'd hear on Saturday morning cartoons during a chase scene. That's not an insult. Laudable Lyrics: I'm glad because you've given me the reasoning to see what's good and bad.
