References to the more popular cultural expressions—which at times can be surprisingly replete with religious motifs—can be an effective way to engage the interest of those on the edge of faith.”

Hmmm, I guess that means we should get our priests a subscription to Entertainment Weekly or something so they can keep up with what most people are watching? I'd actually be interested in what our head pastor would think of the some of the stuff on this blog. When he was first assigned to our parish, I and a bunch of the other Knights of Columbus took him and some of the local Regnum Chisti guys (we were assigned three Legion of Chist priests as part of an experiment) out to eat, and one of the first things he launched into was his theory of how the character of Hawkeye from MASH (the TV series) was instrumental in the destruction of 'manhood' in our culture. I can only imagine what he would do with something like Robot Monster or I Bought A Vampire Motorcycle.

Oh, and I'll definitely check out Monster Hunter.EegahInchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13055947542189758831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34344059.post-12578676318777055332012-10-27T12:28:54.021-04:002012-10-27T12:28:54.021-04:00Just read that the new USCCB document on preaching...Just read that the new USCCB document on preaching says the priest or deacon needs to know what his folks watch on TV & movies, reads, etc. And I have to say, I don't really want my priests knowing my taste in movies, you know? I just found out Ahnuld has agreed to a new Conan and RAN downstairs to tell Smiter...

On happier note, I'm now reading Larry Correia's "Monster Hunter" and it's great braincandy. Like "Ghostbusters" for grown-ups.

Happy Halloween!
Xena CatolicaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34344059.post-17412677808828272232012-10-26T19:56:31.199-04:002012-10-26T19:56:31.199-04:00Poor old Reptilicus. I wish I could remember who it was (Billy Crystal maybe), but back in the 70s someone had a stand-up routine featuring Godzilla doing the dishes while complaining about the other monsters, and he especially hated "that bum Reptilicus!" Some giant monsters just get no repsect.EegahInchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13055947542189758831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34344059.post-55585942844560119852012-10-26T16:31:56.711-04:002012-10-26T16:31:56.711-04:00Dave, why no love for Reptilicus? It's not his fault his special effects crew didn't have a million dollar budget.

The Blob movie looks interesting. According to the trailer, it features "a cast of exciting people."
