COMING ATTRACTIONS: BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE

Sadly, I can't find any trailers anywhere for this one. Nice pulp poster art though.

Horror movie directors seem to play to some sort of sadistic eroticism.

"Screaming young girls sucked into a labyrinth of horror by a blood-starved ghoul from hell" seems kind of obsessed with the fairer sex. And not in a good way either.

I can't argue about the poster. Wikipedia (for what it's worth) says that "Exploitation" is the show business term for promotion, and an exploitation film is one which relies heavily on the lurid advertising of its contents, rather than the intrinsic quality of the film." Biographer Beverly Gray says "[Roger Corman's] movies would sometimes come together around a tag line he knew he wanted on the poster." It's possible this was one of those movies where they came up with an ad campaign first, and then got around to making the movie.

In a lot of these movies, however, there is a big disconnect between what the marketing department promises and what's in the actual film. In Beast From Haunted Cave, I assure you, there are no half-naked screaming young girls sucked into a labyrinth of anything.

I know people in advertising and they're all pretty nice, so I don't want to beat up on the profession too much. But philosopher Peter Kreeft does call advertising the world's oldest sin, started by the Snake when he said, "Hey Eve, look at this nice juicy apple. You know you want it, come take a bite."
