OOOPS!

image01

Um, I’ve had to put out a few small fires here at the theater. Over the last few days my time has been consumed with the Fall fun afternoon at the kindergarten, senior night at the high school, trick or treating, the Bands of America Super Regional (at which our daughter won a big heavy medal), and the usual Sunday night fun of arguing religion with a room full of teenagers. I’m also smack dab in the middle of the Rosary & Novena to Our Lady of Victory dedicated to the election. Yes, I know the Bishops published their own perfectly good election Novena, but it’s very pastoral and I was looking for something a bit more, shall we say, militant, so I went with the one suggested by Father Corapi instead. Either way, it takes a chunk out of each evening.

Which is all just another way of saying that, once again, I’ve been lax in typing up the next review. Another few days and things should be operational again. Thanks for your patience.

Haven't done the novena, but my prayers for the election have been a blunt request for a defeat of the Culture of Death and their chosen demagogue.

I thought about just spending 30 minutes a day screaming Psalms out the window calling on God to rain fire and destruction on those who ridicule and oppress us, but my wife thought the neighbors would wouldn't take it well :)

Going to finish the ninth rosary as suggested by Fr. Corapi right after this comment. My mom keeps having to listen to me moaning the death of my country. This is the woman who put me back to bed after cold war nightmares as a child and keeps responding by saying, "Life is hard. God is good. Don't confuse the two." Somehow, the Church will survive this, too. (To me, looks like a "seeds of the martyrs" situation facing us, but...)

May I request a review of "Mars Attacks," oh, please, please, please???

"Screaming the psalms out the window"?? Your wife is right. You want to CHANT the Psalms out the window....

But yeah, now's when we need militancy. Tonight (Nov. 5)I'm supposed to cover Joshua with my 6th grade RE class & I think I'm going to be talking a lot about not giving up & how we're working on a culture of life far bigger and deeper than a single election.

I've usually kept "low budget" as one of my criteria, but I should probably expand my horizons to include those films that are B-movies at heart. Let me get Zardoz out of the way first; I'd rather not have Connery in a speedo lying around the house for too long.

You've obviously never heard me chant. Some people have a face made for radio, I've got a voice made for writing.

I was half-joking about "Mars Attacks!" I was depressed. Sorry. I realize there are many worthy requests ahead of me and that you're just way to busy to watch that ... thing. Forgive me?

Mars Attacks is no problem, I just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you when something else was reviewed first.

Of course, by allowing a big budget production like Mars Attacks on the site, I realize I'll be opening the door for Xanadu and a few others that have been requested. So much pain, so little time.

Yeah, I recommend not letting that genie out of the bottle. On the other hand, one can argue that you are expanding to b-movie or b-movie style. So Mars Attacks might count, but Xanadu would not. It's the B-movie catechism, not the bad-movie catechism.

So, let me add a request I'm pretty sure counts as B-movie--Spellcaster with Adam Ant (apparently in the last 10 minutes of the film as if that was all they could afford) and Bunty Bailey who was the girl in A-ha's "Take on Me" video.

Mars Attacks? I dunno. I think you should stick to your guns and your low-budget.

Hmmm. I'll have to see if I can come up with a way to work in Mars Attacks without upsetting the purists. I might just have something...

As for Spellcaster, now you're all just being mean! Actually, I haven't seen that one in a long time and I don't think it's on DVD. If I can dig up a copy, though, I'll definitely give it another whirl.
