I remember some Catholic blogger I used to read regularly made the point, more than once, that if there's a rule against a certain behavior, the prudent thing is to stay as far from it as possible, rather than to edge as close to it as possible without crossing the line into sin. IIRC, it was Mark Shea.
I can't argue with that reasoning. Unfortunately, that's not usually what us humans do. I still follow Shea on Twitter/X by the way. Like most of us old bloggers, he's still out there.
