I may be on break from Aleteia for a few weeks, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still watch a movie or two. I’ve managed to get a peek at Elysium and later on this week I’ll let everyone know what I thought right here on the ol’ home blog.
Yeah, it’s a little above our usual budget around here, but the subject matter fits in and it’s Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to District 9, so why not?

In the year 2154, the very wealthy live on Elysium, a Stanford torus[8][9] high-tech space station governed by President Patel (Faran Tahir), in a utopian setting which includes access to private medical machines that offer instant cures, while everyone else lives below on the overpopulated, disease ridden, ruined, "Third World slum"[7] Earth has become. Those who maintain Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens' lifestyle, even destroying ships that attempt to get there.
Where have I heard this before? Oh yeah, it's Battle Angel from about 1990.
Yep, that's one. There's similarities to one even older as well, but I'll get to that in the review.
